Training Day 23 of 127 (Countdown to 1/17/10)

Wow... challenging 3 mile run in the humid Houston weather this morning. It was a nice challenge, although I was definitely glad when it was over. It felt longer than 3 miles but I did enjoy the sights of the city skyline and my music (of course).

These training runs are multi-purposeful; 1) to increase your mileage and prepare you for the marathon (or whatever your goal is) and 2) Place you in every potential running situation you may encounter on race day.

Today, I ran in the humid Houston heat, 2 days ago I ran in the pouring rain... I have run in shorts in the low 30's, I have run on a treadmill, I have run in the dark, in the light, with water, and without. The 18 weeks of training puts you in so many different situations that you are prepared for whatever race day brings to you. For example, if it is hot and humid on race day, I will be wearing a hat or sweat bands... today, the sweat rolled into my eyes and burned so badly, I will ensure I am more prepared in humidity.

Today's Tune is one that is a blast from the past, plus it is a country tune, in honor of my being in Texas for a few days. I hadn't heard this song for a very long time, so when it came on my iPod, I was surprised. After a couple of minutes, the tune is really rocking, it is a real GIRLS tune and one that makes a real statement again domestic violence. Martina McBride sure can sing... this is one of her best tunes.

Until next time - Kelly
